Judge Hannah Dugan, serving in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, was arrested following felony charges for assisting an undocumented immigrant in evading federal authorities.
In a post on social media, FBI Director Kash Patel alleged that Judge Dugan had deliberately misled agents regarding an undocumented immigrant. Subsequently, he removed the post.
The arrest of Judge Dugan was verified by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
The individual in question, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz from Mexico, appeared in Dugan’s courtroom on April 18.
Recognizing the presence of agents from ICE, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and the FBI outside her courtroom during Flores-Ruiz’s hearing, Judge Dugan reportedly guided him out through a jury door. Prior to this action, she insisted that the agents confer with the chief judge of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
According to reports, Flores-Ruiz is currently facing three misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an altercation with his roommates.
However, he does not have any additional criminal charges against him. Following the arrest of Judge Dugan, Judge Monica Isham of the Sawyer County Circuit Court has called for the state’s leading judicial officials to provide explicit guidance; otherwise, she intends to suspend all court activities within her jurisdiction.
In an email titled ‘Guidance Requested or I Refuse to Hold Court,’ Judge Isham stated, ‘If there is no guidance or support for us, I will refuse to conduct court in Branch 2 of Sawyer County. I will not jeopardize myself or my staff, who may feel obligated to assist me or our community.’
She further expressed, ‘I have no intention of permitting anyone to be removed from my courtroom by ICE and sent to a concentration camp, particularly without due process, as mandated by both constitutions we pledged to uphold. Should I begin fundraising for bail?’
Harmeet Dhillon, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, referred to Judge Isham’s correspondence as ‘problematic.’
