Throughout the Bible, we see Jesus’ deep love and care for children. One of the most touching moments occurs when He tells His followers to “let the little children come to me” (Mark 10:14). But why does Jesus hold children in such high regard, and what can we learn from His love for them?
- Children Represent Purity and Innocence: Jesus saw children as pure and untainted by the world’s corruption. They trust freely, love openly, and approach life with an unshakable faith. In this way, they serve as a model for the kind of faith Jesus wanted from His followers—genuine, simple, and wholehearted.
- Jesus Teaches Humility Through Children: In a society that often valued power, wealth, and status, Jesus used children as an example of true humility. He told His disciples that “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it” (Mark 10:15). Children aren’t concerned with status or material possessions; they simply love and trust. Jesus used their example to remind His followers of the importance of humility in their faith.
- Jesus Wants to Protect and Bless Them: Jesus’ love for children is also evident in His desire to protect and bless them. He took time to bless the children who were brought to Him, laying His hands on them and praying for them. His actions demonstrated that every child is precious to God, deserving of love and care.
- Children are a Model of God’s Kingdom: In many ways, children represent the ideals of God’s Kingdom. They are quick to forgive, open to love, and have a simple trust in others. Jesus often used children to illustrate the qualities needed to follow Him and be part of His Kingdom.
Jesus’ love for children is a profound reminder of how we should approach our relationship with God—with trust, humility, and an open heart.
